
Grapplers Den is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children who train with us. We recognise our responsibility to create a safe, positive and inclusive environment where children (anyone under 18) can enjoy Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu without fear of harm, abuse or exploitation.
We are guided by the principles set out in:
• The Children Act 1989 & 2004
• Working Together to Safeguard Children (HM Government)
• NSPCC & Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) guidance
• The welfare of the child is always our top priority.
• All children, regardless of age, gender, disability, culture, racial origin, religion, socio-economic status or sexual identity, have the right to protection from harm.
• Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
• Children have the right to be heard and involved in decisions affecting them.
• We work in partnership with parents/carers and external agencies where required.
Grapplers Den will:
• Provide a safe training environment with appropriate supervision.
• Ensure all coaches and volunteers working with children hold an Enhanced DBS check and receive safeguarding training.
• Follow safe recruitment practices.
• Promote the rights, wishes and well-being of every child.
• Respond quickly and appropriately to any safeguarding concerns or allegations.
• Follow a clear reporting procedure, led by our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
• Take disciplinary action against any member who breaches safeguarding standards.
• Review and update this policy regularly, at least every three years or following any incident or changes in legislation.
